Bone Grafts and Sinus Lifts

Bone Grafting & Sinus Lifts for Dental Implants | Trusted by Patients Across Melbourne

Missing bone doesn’t mean you can’t get implants. Our bone graft and sinus lift procedures restore lost bone and support long-term implant success.

Dental implants require a stable foundation. If the jawbone is too thin or has deteriorated, a bone graft or sinus lift may be necessary to support the implant.

These procedures help rebuild bone in areas where it’s been lost due to tooth extraction, gum disease, or natural resorption.

Why Bone Health Matters

Implants fuse with the bone, which means sufficient volume and density are essential. When the jaw lacks support, implants may fail or be contraindicated.

Bone grafting and sinus lifts restore the bone structure needed to proceed with treatment.

What Is a Bone Graft?

A bone graft involves placing a biocompatible material into areas of bone loss. Over time, the graft is replaced with new bone.

In some cases, this is done at the same time as implant placement. In others, grafting is performed in advance to allow healing before implants are placed.

What Is a Sinus Lift?

In the upper back jaw, the sinus cavity may extend into the area where implants are needed. A sinus lift moves the sinus membrane upward and adds bone to increase vertical height for implant placement.

This procedure is common for patients with reduced upper jawbone volume.

Assessment and Candidacy

Bone grafting or sinus lift procedures may be recommended if:

  • Teeth have been missing for an extended period
  • The patient has worn dentures long-term
  • Gum disease or trauma has led to bone loss

Radiographic imaging is used to evaluate bone volume and determine the most appropriate approach.

Treatment Process

Treatment is customised based on individual needs. Some patients may receive grafting and implant placement in one procedure. Others may require staged treatment with healing time between procedures.

Post-operative care and follow-up ensure the graft integrates successfully.
