How much do dental implants cost? It’s our most common question. Cost varies on the extent of the procedure required. For straightforward dental implant treatment candidates, the cost in Australia averages between $3,500 to over $5,000 depending on a number of factors. These factors include:
- The surgeon’s protocols
- The laboratory they use: Overseas laboratories are less expensive than local laboratories
- The materials used in the implant post, abutment, and crown.
- The expertise of the surgeon
The second most common question we get asked is if private health insurance helps. The answer is: Maybe. Everyone has a different level of coverage, but if your plan covers implants or, in many cases, major dental, insurance often covers a portion of the treatment cost. However, it’s important to note that in our experience, health insurance covers a small portion of implant treatment and patients should expect a significant gap between what the insurance covers and what is owed.
How do you know what your insurance will cover? After our initial consultation, Dr Helen will give you a full treatment plan with item numbers and fees which can be lodged with your health insurance company to give you an idea of what your level of coverage will provide toward those item numbers.

Dental implant treatment can take anywhere from three months to a year, and payments are spread in increments over this time, so it’s not all due at once, making it a bit easier to save and manage your finances along the way.
