What is a Dental Bone Scan?

If you’re considering a dental implant, Dr Helen will ask you to have a Cone Beam CT (bone scan) done.  Unlike the little x-ray radiographs that you get done in the chair that show us your teeth or the 2D full-mouth x-ray radiograph called OPG  that show us your mouth, a Cone Beam CT is a 3D scan of your mouth that shows us the quality and amount of bone you have.

This bone is very important in the planning process of dental implant treatment, as dental implants need good-quality and quantity of bone for anchorage.  Sometimes after this scan, Dr Helen will recommend bone grafting to help improve the quality and quantity of bone available to give your implant the best long-term outcome.
