How to Prevent Gum Disease & Protect Your Teeth

Prevention/Healthy gums:

Most dental diseases are preventable. I am a strong promoter of preventive oral health measures. There are two direct influences you have on your oral health: one is diet and the other is oral hygiene.

I advise all my patients on the best methods to keep their teeth and gums in pristine condition, thus minimising future dental bills.

I can also show you the most effective ways to brush and floss your teeth when you come to see me next. Once you get into a routine and learn some techniques, you’ll find it’s like learning to drive: it just gets easier the more often you do it. If you follow my advice, you will be in the top one per cent of the population who know how to prevent dental diseases. Your teeth and gums become healthier as a result.

Mouthguards:

When partaking in most sporting activities, it’s vital to protect your teeth from injury. Wearing a mouthguard can help give you the confidence you need to perform at your full potential, safe in the knowledge that your teeth are well-protected. A rubber-like mouthguard covers the upper teeth, whilst cushioning them from a blow to the face. It can minimise the risk of damaged or broken teeth and injuries to the lips, tongue, cheeks or jaw.

Although generic mouthguards are available over the counter, a custom-made mouthguard offers the best protection for your smile.
